SEATTLE - MADE WEEK

From the land between sea and mountains...

Cloud city now has its own spirit week: Seattle-Made Week. Recently, Seattle Magazine came out with an article highlighting many Seattle-made food and beverage wholesalers that have started from scratch (pun not intended) and have grown to open multiple storefronts. Seattle is lucky to be home to the best seafood, cupcakes, beer, chocolate and coffee.

While Seattle’s foodie and tech crunchers are high and mighty, some may overlook the ubiquitous amount of local clothing, accessories and textile merchants we have in this city. Let’s take a closer look at a few of Seattle’s local entrepreneurs of textile, accessory design, screen printing and eco-friendly manufacturers:

Open the Cellar Door

Kristina Cullen of Open The Cellar Door, sells her items at select Urban Outfitters located in Seattle, Moksha boutique and online on Etsy. Open the Cellar Door is all manufactured by Cullen herself. Each piece is unique and is fashioned from bones, vintage iron nails and various quartz crystals. Open the Cellar Door creates body chains, necklaces, earrings, rings, headpieces and chokers. All of her materials are ethically sourced.

Alchemy Goods

Alchemy Goods is the eco-friendly accessory innovation created by Eli Reich. After having his messenger bag stolen in 2003, Reich fashioned a bag out of bike tube scraps and seat belts for shoulder straps. What is so unique about Alchemy Goods bags is their complete durability. They’re all rubber and completely weather resistant. Take it camping, on your commute, hiking, fighting dragons, anything that calls for utility and style. Alchemy Goods carries various wallets, toiletry bags, passport holders and much more! All bike tubes come from participating REI, Trek and independent bike shops.

Choke Print Shop

Choke Print Shop originally began as a shirt printing company based out of the Fremont neighborhood. Matt and Jeff of Choke T-Shirts sold their hand-printed designs at the Fremont Farmer’s Market. The custom print shop came to fruition to broaden their printing merchandise and services. Choke now prints tees and promo merch for major companies and print for retailers at 150+ locations around the US. They currently manufacture in Sodo and provide: screen printing, embroidery, promotional products and Greek licensing.

The Hood Witch

Along with Open the Cellar Door, The Hood Witch, also a home-made vendor, graced her presence at the monthly pop-up shop, the Badwill Market. The Hood Witch is all about meditation, holistic healing, positive vibrations, health and sexuality. She writes on moon phase interpretation, cosmology and astrology. You can find healing crystals, incense, smudging sticks, sage brush and rare books on all things occult and metaphysical. To throw in the mix, Hood Witch recently did a collaboration with Floss Gloss and produced a dreamy pastel nail lacquer!
