The Magic of Michelle Lesniak
She's a fierce chick. After watching her the whole season of Project Runway Season 11 "Group Challenges", I was floored by the tenacity for her eye on the prize. Nearly getting voted off due to a weak team and risks, she continued to emit her vibration and desire to win 100% of the time. And it finally happened! She went on to Project Runway All Stars to make it to the runner up podium and show her entire collection in the finale. Now, she's all over the map, but stays true to her PNW roots in the hip mecca of Portland, OR.
Michelle Lesniak originally studied printmaking at the Art Institute of Chicago. She soon found out that cloth and textiles were the path she would walk. Lesniak is self-taught in garment design and specializes in working with leather. She gathers inspiration all by surrounding herself in her love of art, music, prints and textures. Portland is one lucky city to have her to mold the fashion industry.
For her Spring collection, Falling Upwards, Lesniak drew inspiration from stories of escape and dreamlike ventures. Her girls are daring, reckless and in constant flux of scenery and mind. Always asking: "What's next?" The collection features many recurring images of whimsical hot air balloons, with fringy tassels. This harnesses the central theme of adventure and the elements air and fire.
